Jeff Manuel is associate professor of history at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His public history work focuses on interpreting difficult local histories in southwestern Illinois. He is also the author of Taconite Dreams: The Struggle to Sustain Mining on Minnesota’s Iron Range, 1915-2000 (University of Minnesota Press, 2015) and is currently working on a book comparing the U.S. and Brazilian biofuel industries.
